Welcome to the Virginia Faith United Against Tobacco Products web site. We are a coalition of clergy and people of faith who have come together to reduce tobacco addiction and disease among kids. We are also working with public health advocates on this important issue.

Our main goal is to persuade Congress to limit the ability of tobacco companies to market their deadly products to our children. We want the Virginia Congressional Delegation to support legislation that will authorize the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to oversee the manufacturing and marketing of this addictive and lethal product. The bills, titled the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (S. 625 and H.R. 1108) are sponsored by Senators Ted Kennedy (D-MA) and John Cornyn (R-TX) and Congressmen Henry Waxman (D-CA) and Tom Davis (R-VA). So far, Virginia Representative James Moran (VA-8) has signed on as a cosponsor.

Unfortunately, many members of the Virginia delegation have not yet agreed to sponsor this bill. We are launching a major effort to ask other clergy and people of faith to send a message to the Virginia Congressional delegation that we want them to cosponsor this vital legislation.

We encourage people of faith to sign this resolution and ask them to ask their family and friends to join us in this effort as well.
