Dear [Lawmaker]:
I am writing to urge you to support legislation that will increase funding for life-saving tobacco prevention and cessation programs, which provide all Vermonters the resources they need to quit smoking. Also, I want to be sure that you see an advertisement that is currently running throughout Vermont. Just click on the link below to take a look at the pdf document.
Right now, Vermont's tobacco prevention and cessation programs are under-funded and some Vermonters are not getting the help they need to quit.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that Vermont spend a minimum of $7.9 million a year to have an effective, comprehensive tobacco prevention and cessation program. Vermont currently spends far less than the CDC's recommended minimum on these critical programs.
It's time for Vermont to fully fund the state tobacco prevention and cessation programs. All Vermonters deserve to have the resources they need to protect themselves from a lifetime of tobacco addiction and disease.
Thank you for reading my email and I look forward to hearing your opinion on this important issue.
